Syria Freedom Rally

Syria Freedom Rally
This was a rally to support people seeking freedom in Syria. Since the protests began last year, every Saturday at 2pm a group of people, mainly from Calgary's Syrian community hold a rally for this cause. On this day people associated with the Occupy Calgary also decided to hold a rally for the same cause, and were present when I was there. I was only there for a limited time, so didn't see who came and left before and after. I'm not sure how much the two groups interacted.

Skating at Olympic Plaza

Skating at Olympic Plaza
A skater at Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary on December 14, 2011. I decided to play around with filters on Photoshop and came up with this. There was a women next to her, who happened to have her tongue out for the shot, so I cropped her out, and then used the the "content aware delete" to remove what was left.

Missed it

Missed it
I got up early for me, but somewhat late, to try to catch the moon. As you can tell the photo didn't work out well, and this was my best shot. I made it prettier with boosted saturation, but it doesn't change the basic problems. I had a bad location and with obstructions and to much vibration to make the shot. I could have raised the ISO, but just wasn't willing to, relying on a slow shutter speed. Anytime, I needed to do some more planning for this one. I guesse I have lots of time before the next Lunar Eclipse.

The Heart of the Beast

The Heart of the Beast
I took this at Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary on Friday, December 9, 2011. I came a couple hours in advance of the 2pm deadline for Occupy Calgary campers to leave. To my surprise, the tents were gone. Protesters left behind a signs with short messages. They also left this sculpture.

You wanna picture…here’s your picture

You wanna picture...here's your picture
This friendly guy is a cameraman with Sun News, a national cable broadcaster in Canada. He was annoyed that I took his picture, telling me I was not allowed to, despite being in a public place. After I persisted, he said something along the lines, that if I want a picture, then here's my picture. So, to him, I say thanks for the picture. Now, here's the long winded version:

Getting ready to take a shot

Getting ready to take a shot
This is one of the photos I took at Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary on Friday, December 9, 2011. I came a couple hours in advance of the 2pm deadline for Occupy Calgary campers to leave. To my surprise, the tents were gone. I found since, the occupiers removed everything overnight, and left behind some signs and a new sculpture.

Merry Christmas in the OP

Merry Christmas in the OP
I found a few pieces of what I assume was a display set here. They were lying separate and I put them together for this photo. This photo can use some fixing. There's some blue in the snow that I need to remove. I tried using a "White Balance" spot fix, but I didn't really have a proper reference point. So, I just need to de-saturate the snow separately. But, I posted it now, because I still like it. It's probably my favorite shot of the day.
