On Wednesday, April 2, 2014 there was a gathering of people with Autism and their families at Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary.
A group of Muslims gathered at Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary on Saturday, November 9, 2013. One of the attendees started to explain what the gathering was about. I was expecting he was going to talk about recent events (assuming this was a run of the mill political protest of some sort). He told me about the Battle of Karbala (in 680 CE) and Husayn ibn Ali, who is held in high esteem as a martyr by Shia Muslims. Although I was interested, I didn't get into a real discussion, since talking religion with a stranger can risk causing unintended offense. Everyone at the event was quite friendly. Free water and snacks were offered to everyone (whether they were apart of the group or were just passing by).
Fireworks were fired off when the trio pushed the button.
The singer is part of a live band performing for part of the event.
Skating was the main activity of the event.
This is Jill Belland from Citytv helping to host the New Year's 2012 celebration at Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary. She is seen here doing one of several clips off-stage throughout the event. It looked like there was a draw for a car, with the tickets in the hat, but I really couldn't hear or follow what was happening.
A skater at Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary on December 14, 2011. I decided to play around with filters on Photoshop and came up with this. There was a women next to her, who happened to have her tongue out for the shot, so I cropped her out, and then used the the "content aware delete" to remove what was left.
One of the Occupy Calgary members did some meditation. This pretty much sums up how peaceful and relaxed the protesters were.
One of the journalists covering the Occupy Calgary camp. Obviously, I did a bit selective decolourization. I thought most colours were a distraction (like the bright red ring behind her).
Part of the post race ceremony (previous text removed, thanks for correction).
Didn't recognize her, but she's one of the Olympans being honoured. I liked her outfit. In a sea of red, something different is nice.
Tamara Oudenaarden is a short track speed skater.
Mellisa Hollingsworth won bronze in the skeleton for Canada in Turin.
Calgary held a salute to Olympians from Alberta at Olympic Plaza on Monday, April 5, 2010. It was followed by a mini-parade of athletes led by a show band down Stephen Avenue.
Helen Upperton won Silver for Canada in bobsled in Vancouver.
She sang Oh Canada for the crowd.
This was a singing/comedy group. They did a number of covers, with unique twists.
Light wasn't that great, since the sky was cloudy. So, it helps if the subject has their own light.
The Dudes is an indi rock band based in Calgary. Lighting was difficult, so most shots were blurry and badly lit. This is the best I could do.
