Wearing buttons for Tibet

Wearing buttons for Tibet
This is one of the pictures I took in downtown Calgary of a protest for Tibetan freedom against the Chinese government. Protesters started at Olympic Plaza and marched to the Chinese consulate, which is where these protesters are. The girl is wearing assorted pro-Tibet buttons.

Protester Denise Ogonoski can be seen in the back seat, being taken away by police. She was taken in because she had climbed up a light pole to put up a Tibetan flag outside the Chinese consulate. One thing that concerned me after this happened, was I overheard another protester asking where Denise was taken, and the police officer didn't seem to know or care to find out.

In addition to Tibet, protesters were also informed of the persecution of the Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) movement. The man speaking said he was imprisoned for three years and his wife was still held by China, due to their involvement with Falun Dafa (aka Falun Gong), a Chinese spiritual movement.

Denise Ogonoski spoke at the rally at Olympic Plaza, as one of the members of Students for a Free Tibet that were deported from China during the Beijing Olympics. Later on, she tried waving a Tibetan flag from a light pole outside the Chinese consulate, which got her a ride in a Calgary Police Service car.
