This isn’t meant to be a good photo, but an excuse for a mini-blog post.
This is from a lawn across from the Damesh Culture Centre. The residents there were telling me how frustrating it’s been having large numbers of people going through their yard every year, despite their complaints, and promises to do something by the city, and parade organizers.
They also mentioned that in a previous year, their vehicle was actually blocked in, and they couldn’t get out, when they had a sick. This was my first attendance of this parade since moving to this area of the city, and I have to say it’s amazingly badly organized. No other regular event of this size (which there are few) is this badly organized when it comes to considering the feelings of neighbors.
This is one of the pictures I took of the annual Nagar Kirtan parade on Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Calgary. This is a religious event of the Sikh community. It started and ended at the Dashmesh Culture Centre.
