This is a bridge connecting Eau Claire and downtown (camera left), and Prince’s Island (camera right). Though not meeting the proper definition, its referred to as the Prince’s Island Lagoon.
When I first saw the skaters, I was a little surprised. The ice didn’t seem in great condition, and it’s been relatively warm lately, which I would think makes for bad ice.
I Googled it, and found the city opened Prince’s Island Lagoon as a skating rink, on a trial basis, in December 2010. I’m not sure if it’s officially opened up for skating in December 2011. I didn’t see any signage (didn’t look to hard). I think Olympic Plaza would be a better option for people wanting a free rink downtown. Although the scenery is a lot better here.
